In 2018 I was hired by a NYC based lighting manufacturer to design & implement an internal modular packaging system to automate and refine the packaging process. At the time, there was little protocol for the packaging process & minimal documentation. The breakage rate for shipped product was high, and the customer experience was severely implicated. The goal was to create a system where each product had a set of parts to collect and instructions to simplify & refine the packaging process. Since structural integrity was the primary objective for this packaging, each fixture was analyzed by size & components. A small collection of custom, robust shipping containers were created to house a variety of the 70 + fixtures per container. Each had specifically designed foam inserts, which were then cut out from our custom biodegradable foam. The process was simplified to picking out instructions, the jigs & box listed and the designated packaging materials to execute the packaging in a repeatable and maintainable manner.
In addition to the day to day packaging, I designed custom pre-made packaging for bulk ordered to reduce packaging time and material costs while maintaining the experience.
